Worthington Community Theatre to perform Annie Get Your Gun
Worthington, Ohio, July 5, 2007 – Sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her side show will roll into town for the Worthington Community Theatre’s presentation of Annie Get Your Gun at Worthington Kilbourne High School, 1499 Hard Road. Performances are July 20, 21, 27 & 28 at 8 p.m. and July 21 and 29 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the door a half hour prior to the show.
A cast and crew of more than 50 people from all over Central Ohio have been rehearsing at Selby Park for the past two months. Annie Get Your Gun, the only show of the 2007 season, is directed by Scott Jones with musical direction by David Toro and choreography by Nikki Rehmert. The role of Annie Oakley will be played by Kirstin Flaglor, and Jim VanRens will play the lead male role of Frank Butler.
“We have a very talented cast and crew who have been working diligently to offer Worthington a state-of-the-art production,” Jones said. “Whether you’re on a family outing, a date or just hanging out with friends, Annie Get Your Gun is entertaining to audiences of all kinds. I encourage everyone to come and enjoy the show.”
Debuting in 1946, Annie Get Your Gun hit the bulls eye when a newly revised version returned to the stage in 1999. Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone reshaped the original Rodgers and Hammerstein version to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that tells of the rocky romance between sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank’s bothersome assistant and a boy who is (to the sister’s horror) Native American and Irish. Annie Get Your Gun features a musical score created by Irving Berlin and includes classics like “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”
“Worthington Community Theatre has been committed to providing the community with quality theatre for 37 years,” said Board President Lisa Minken, who also plays the supporting role of Dolly Tate. “We plan to continue offering popular musicals like Annie Get Your Gun for years to come. We look forward to performing future shows in the Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center of Worthington.”
